Our Process, Approach, and some FAQ.

How do we approach competitive baseball?

Players need time to develop properly, so there are no short cuts or magic pills to making a great player. We take an age appropriate approach to teaching core principles of the game, developing fundamental skills, forming athletic ability, and building character through hard work and doing it together with teammates. We believe in teaching kids that everything counts in their pursuit of success and that success is measured by their ability to compete as well as do things the right way, no matter the results. We like to win and have the trophies to prove it, but care more about growth and improvement in our players that creates the confidence and traits for these players to become leaders in the community…and we like to have fun playing the game we love!

What is competitive baseball?

Once your child has enjoyed rec league ball or tried his hand at intermediate levels and desires to play at a higher level, competitive baseball is the best option. There are different approaches to competitive, so make sure to find the best fit for your family. The advantages of our competitive program is that kids get more practice with skilled coaches. This allows players to learn the game, develop their skills, and then play in higher quality game situations for testing their progress.

Do you play league, tournaments or both?

We believe the best approach to maximize practice time during the weeks and to create an appropriate training rhythm for the kids, is to play tournaments only. League play tends to be a lower quality product overall and takes up multiple nights per week for games. We prefer to prioritize week days for practice and maintain more of your evenings for family time. Tournaments are spaced out throughout the season to create a nice balance and the quality of competition is simply better.

Do you travel very far?

Most Rush teams play their full schedule of tournaments in northern Colorado or the greater Denver area. As a result, most travel is within an hour. This is especially true for our younger teams, as they do not need to travel very far for quality competition. Some of our older teams will decide to take a trip outside of the immediate area, depending on their readiness for that type of an experience. As teams develop and the time comes to consider more travel, that is always a decision we include all families on the team before anything is decided. NOTE: we are not a national travel team, so we don’t get ‘crazy’ with flying all over the place for games that we could instead play in our backyard and be just as valuable for our players.

What is the cost?

Pricing depends on several factors, but usually ranges from $1,500-$2,200 per season. This range fits our younger kids who play less tournaments to our older teams who naturally play more games. Items covered with your fees include uniforms, caps, bag, and helmet for the player along with practice fields, team equipment, indoor training, tournament fees, insurance, and more. As a non-profit organization, we budget really well and commit to giving back any fees that were not used for actual team expenses. So, it’s possible you will receive a refund at the end of the season for any remaining funds.

Do you provide fundraising opportunities?

We provide individual, team, and club fundraising opportunities. Many of the team fundraisers prioritize team building, but also bring in funds to share amongst the families. Individual fundraisers are made available for those families who are interested in ways to offset the cost and it’s completely optional. Ultimately, we want to make great baseball available to anyone who wants to participate.

How do tryouts work?

Prior to each new season we hold tryouts for all age groups. While most of our players continue in our program, we are always looking for new players and families to join the Rush Family. There are usually a few open roster spots per year as some players move on or families move out of the area. Tryouts are a one day event for up to 2 hours as we see the kids run, throw, track balls, field, hit, and hustle. We look for skill level, good attitude, position fit, coach-ability, and more…not always who hits the furthest or throws the hardest. If you have an interest in competitive baseball, we encourage you to come out to tryouts for the experience if nothing else. Tryouts are alway free and we’re happy to evaluate your player as well as provide feedback.

Registrations will open again next summer.
